Literature Text

Out of reach they hang
Glistening in the dark
Like tantalizing jewels

Straining
You stretch your arm
Until you grasp the nearest one

But how can you check
To see if it is sweet?
Looks alone will not reveal this to you

Only by biting
Into its soft flesh
Can you discover its secrets

But beware
For its skin can conceal
A bitter, rotten taste within

And once bitten
You cannot spit it out
Until all of the bitter fruit is devoured

But the fruit
Can also be sweet
Sweeter than life itself

So choose wisely
Take a bite
And brace yourself for the sensations to come
What is it? You tell me what you think it is.

(Note, I have no skills in poetry whatsoever.)

No one actually got what it was. However, few of you were truly wrong, seeing as things such as relationships, the paths we choose through our lives, and ,well, sex, are all memories that we end up gathering in our lives. Some are bitter and best left untouched as unripe fruit until enough time has passed for them to become less harsh. Others are sweet and juicy with good times. You want to relive these moments again and again. Sometimes we pick a memory forgetting the pain we endured that time and end up reliving unwanted pain. SO choosing the memories one recalls can be a tricky business. But our memories are truly the fruit and treasures of our minds. =)

When I first read this, I had no idea what the metaphor was about. Now it all makes sense!
